What is Employer Branding?

Employer branding is the representation of a company, and it is the image a company projects to attract new applicants and retain their top talents. Employer branding consists of the company’s values, work culture, and reputation in the market. It is an internal and external marketing strategy that encourages employees to develop a positive attitude and view of their company, which empowers them to be effective brand ambassadors.

Why does employer branding matter? 

Employer branding is important because it communicates why the company is an ideal place to work for candidates. It is the top way to set a company apart from its competitors when competing for the same candidates. For example, although a company may have amazing products and services, this alone will not convince someone to work or stay at a company. This is why employer branding is important, as it communicates a company's values, culture, and leadership. The better the employer branding, the more likely a company is to retain and attract the top talents in the market.

Employer Branding Strategy 

  1. Know your company’s value proposition: An effective employer brand consists of focusing on a company’s mission statement, values, vision, and culture. It is important to identify what your company is good at, and why it is an attractive place for top talent to work at. 
  2. Offer learning and development opportunities: A top reason why people quit and leave their jobs is because they are bored and feel their growth is stagnant. By allowing employees to upskill, it will increase employee retention. 
  3. Use blogs and social media posts to showcase the company: To improve brand perception in the market, multiple channels can be used to showcase company culture. These can include blog pages, videos, photos, etc.
